Catch 22 are proud to be working with a leading provider of Student Accommodation to add to their Central Estates Team. They are looking to bring in an Estates Building Surveyor to formalise the upkeep of the fabric of their buildings across their national property portfolio.

Purpose of the role:

To work within a Central Estates Team providing expert advice in delivering a safe, secure, efficient and compliant estate. The successful candidate will identify risk and seek guidance from fellow Estates colleagues to mitigate and manage those risks whilst sharing best practice throughout the sites. Driving efficiency into the performance of the existing estate whilst also supporting decisions on future acquisition and disposal, the role also works closely with colleagues to identify sustainable, environmental and innovation opportunities for the business.

Key Accountabilities
– To carry out dilapidation’s inspections, including preparation of interim and terminal schedules
– To carry our work associated with the Party Wall Act
– Identify Building defects on accommodation and commercial property
– To carry out condition surveys and prepare schedules of condition
– Technical Due Diligence
– Drive a Health and Safety culture across all areas of the business, ensuring that every individual knows what is expected of them to conduct their operations safely

Key Responsibilities:
– To provide expert input into the Specification
– To work with the Energy & Environment Team to find effective solutions
– To process applications for alterations from freeholders
– To provide technical expertise to the Estates Project Management Team to maintain the high quality of fabric on the estate through the Lifecycle works
– To monitor work carried out under insurance claims
– To carry out building surveys, supporting documentation and advice in connection with acquisitions, disposals, surrenders and renewals
– To follow the Data Protection Policy and associated policies, keeping information confidential and secure, in order to ensure employee and customer data is protected and handled appropriately in line with legislative requirements
– Ensure relevant codes of practice and internal policies and procedures are in place and shared for all Estates activities undertaken
– Supporting the creation of an estates strategy providing expertise in to future property related decisions

Key Requirements:
– Ideally you will have at least 3 years post qualification experience and have been in a similar role delivering general building surveyor services
– Relevant APC/MRICS qualifications
– Experience of party wall matters
– Degree in Building Surveying
– Excellent and accurate report writing skills
– Experience of working in a pro-active commercial environment
– Sound knowledge of building contracts in a commercial context
– Commercially astute
– High level of up-to-date technical building knowledge
– Extensive experience in a Facilities Management or Estates Management role
– Expert knowledge of statutory regulations and legislation
– Detailed knowledge of Health and Safety responsibilities
– Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
– Basic understanding of data protection legislation and experience of developing and maintaining a team environment where personal data is kept protected, confidential and secure
