Handyman/Decorator

Our client a specialist school in central Manchester are looking to appoint a General Maintenance Decorator/Handyman to assist the estates team in maintaining the site.
 
The main responsibilities of this role include:
 
– To clean electrical fitting and diffusers on a quarterly basis or as required.
– To carry out an inspection on a daily basis of the lights and fittings and replace the lamps and tubes as necessary.
– To check and log the weekly inspections of the fire extinguishers and emergency lights ensuring they comply with current regulations.
– To inspect and test the fire extinguisher tamper alarms and exit door stoppers then replace the batteries on an annual basis or as required, recording the information.
– Carry out minor mechanical repairs to the School vehicles with others.
– To assist in clearing out blocked drains and manholes.
– To assist other maintenance personnel to take Accounts staff to the bank as required.
– To participate in the call out for emergency situations within the School as required.
– Carry out small tiling and plastering projects and repairs to boarding areas.
– Carry out small engineering works and attend discussions for final installations.
– To stand in for Security staff in when the security staff are over extended due to staff absentees/shortages. This will include times when additional security – staff are required for special functions within the School.
 
This role will be 37 ½ hours a week between 8am and 4:30pm Monday to Friday, However weekend cover maybe required and overtime may be available. Successful candidates will have to be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check as it is an educational organisation.
 
This role is initially a temporary position however the client will need to fill it permanently so would make the appointment permanent after a period of 16 weeks. For this the client is willing to offer an hourly rate of £10.21 per hour.
