One of Manchester's leading events and conference centres is seeking to strengthen its Facilities Maintenance team with the appointment of a new Technical Services Engineers.

You could be electrically or mechanically qualified, an AC Engineer, a plumber, pipefitter or a gas engineer – all trades will be considered. You may not necessarily even come from a Building Maintenance background – those with a construction or industrial or any other relevant background will also be considered. What is essential for this role is you must be flexible, happy to learn and willing to "muck-in".
The main aim of this role is to be responsible for all aspects of the venue maintenance, operation and repair of services to the Convention Complex. You will also be responsible for completion of planned preventative and reactive maintenance activities for all plant and equipment. 

Main responsibilities

Undertake PPMs eg Fire alarms, lighting, water hygeine

– To manage on site third party contractors ensuring they complete tasks on time and safely to required standards
– To provide an element of cost, programme, safety and build ability advice on proposed maintenance and capital improvement works

– To be primary technical support and contact onsite, outside normal operating times as and when requested in line with business needs.
– Adherence to all statutory standards and regulations
– Issuing of permits to work to third parties ensuring all relevant documentation is correct and in line with company policy and H&S standards

– To fully understand and undertake daily checks on the building management systems so that they work at optimum efficiency ensuring that any non-conformities are escalated to the Technical Services Project Manager
– To respond to maintenance requests and planned preventative maintenance activities for all venue assets, plant and equipment using the CAFM system and agreed priorities.

– To ensure that all staff and subcontractors' response and rectification times are met and repairs are undertaken diligently, with due care and without undue delay
– Responsible for undertaking fire verification in areas of technical importance to the venue when fire alarm activations occur.

– Directly accountable for day-to-day matters to the Technical Services Project Manager

– Responsible for ensuring the energy management systems are fully operational

General small maintenance in other areas as and when requested
To keep up to date with and have an awareness of new products and new improved working methods that can add value by improving quality and reducing costs
To undertake maintenance surveys and produce reports accurately and concise

Person Specification 


A recognised engineering qualification in Electrical, Air Con, Gas Plumbing etc


You must be flexible and willing to learn and "muck in"
The ability to demonstrate a pragmatic and “common sense” approach to problem solving.
The ability to prioritise work and accommodate conflicting requests, whilst ensuring the day to day functionality of the complex.
Highly organised with the ability to manage time effectively.
Self-motivated with the ability to work in both independently or as part of team
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure.
